The InfoSec
Pager
What is it?
It is Zone-H gift to the security
community. It is a valuable tool for all the security professionals,
administrators, simple ITsec enthusiasts.
How does it works?
It is a software client which keeps itself
loaded in the taskbar. Every certain time (configurable) it connects to
www.zone-h.org backend section and report all the latest updates in the
news, advisories and defacement sections. The client allows the user to look for
the updates of some specific advisories (*nix, win* or general) or it looks for
specific keyword occurrence in Zone-H contents.
If the user clicks on one of the news,
advisories or defacement reported by the InfoSec
Pager, the client opens up Zone-H related page in a browser window . This
tool will help the ITSec professional to save a lot of time in getting the
proper information, alerting only when it is present in our website thus
reducing significantly the "surfing-for-news" time.
What options are available in the InfoSec
Pager?
The user can choose to get updates related
to:
- Security News
- *nix advisories
- win* advisories
- general advisories
- everything published on Zone-H including
certain keywords; e.g. if the keyword is "Microsoft" the client will
notify the user each time the word "Microsoft" is present in the news,
defacements, advisories
- configurable polling time
I have a firewall/router... does it
work without problems through them?
Absolutely
Does it requires a complicated
installation?
Not at all. The InfoSec
Pager comes in a zip package containing an .exe and a .ini file. Unzip them
where you want (keep them together though) and launch the exe. There is no
installation routine as well as no changes in the system registry.
How can I get rid of it, eventually?
Delete the .exe and the .ini. No unistall
is required
What are the license terms of the
InfoSec Pager?
InfoSec Pager
runs under a freeware license. You can freely use it, you can freely distribute
it (for non commercial purposes) . The ownership of the InfoSec
Pager will still be in www.zone-h.org hand.
How much does it cost?
Zero. It's for free. Just cheer at us next
time you'll be drinking a beer.
What security threats are eventually
introduced by the InfoSec
Pager?
None. The InfoSec
Pager connects every time to www.zone-h.org
through port 80 and looks for 6 files contained in Zone-H backend section. Those files
contain only the visor image, the news-text (which is shown in the pager) and the
links to the related zone-h page. You can use a sniffer to test the dataflow
between the InfoSec
Pager and www.zone-h.org.
Do you have a Linux version?
